New artist space in Denver accepting members!

Processus

Institute for Art and Life

processus

WHAT:

“Processus [prɔsesys]: French word for process, evolution; a group of actions with a common goal; a series of events or a succession of methods. Processus also relates to Process Art, an artistic movement where the end product is not the principal focus. This multi-use space is inspired by our art philosophies and by our way of life. Driven by process and ideas, our works reflect timeless actions and methods as we often go back to the basics. For years, we have dreamed about a place to work, a place to meet new people and share important ideas. We envision a place where the artist community will share processes and ideas, a place to experiment and discover new things, a place that focuses on experience and chance encounters.

This came from the need of a simple space where individual artists, designers and community members can make objects and learn new things regardless of their abilities or background. The focus of the workspace will be on handmade objects and works on paper. It will include a shop, a clean room and a darkroom. It will also provide tools, assistance and advice for artists to make what they need to professionally display their works. It will be a place for people to discuss ideas, and experiment with materials. Creative individuals and community members will learn from each other, blurring the boundaries between art and life.

As part of the project, a small café will offer a space for people to think and share ideas. The café will focus on locally grown simple foods and vegan treats. Regular offerings of art displays, talks, pop up events, etc… will start after the workspaces are open. The café will be open to the public while the workspace will be open to members only.”

Throwback Thursday: Vintage Camera Ads

If you’ve never visited Englewood Camera, you’re missing out on our great selection of photographic history. We pride ourselves in carrying not just digital products and camera accessories, but antique, vintage, and analog equipment as well. A lot of our display items are not for sale, so our customers can reminisce over the days of photo past. On this throwback Thursday, we’ve looked for some fun, vintage photography ads to share with you. We hope you like our findings!

Kodak-Ektralite-10

A 1970’s ad for the Kodak Ektralite 10, an instamatic camera that used 110 film.

Leica-M4

Leica’s response to automatic cameras!

Miranda

Just a little risque…Hal Reiff shot this image for Miranda in the early 1960’s.

Honeywell_Ad

“Let’s Remember the Good Times” ad from the mid ’70’s featuring a Pentax KM and Honeywell flash. That hair!

Minolta_Ad

“If you’re serious about photography, wear a Minolta SRT-101.”

Fun with a fisheye (and some film!)

Once in a while, Englewood Camera brings in some pretty cool, old gear. On the shelf right now is a Nikkor 10mm f/5.9 OP Fisheye with the viewfinder accessory. Check out these fun shots our employee Chris shot on a Nikon F3T (in mirror-lockup mode). You can adapt this sweet lens to a variety of digital cameras, such as a Sony A7, with a proper adapter (see second series of images in this post). The tube of the adapter needs to be wide enough to accommodate the back element of the lens. Make this fisheye yours for only $1,700.00!

Analog photographers unite! Englewood Camera offers the best in analog products.

For those non-believers who say film is dead: at Englewood Camera, we are inclined to disagree! With more and more companies switching to digital photography, analog photographers are left with minimal resources for purchasing and processing film.

Save 10% on film! We process C-41 and B&W in house with fast turn around times too, and can scan your negatives onto a CD. So analog photographers: don’t fret! Englewood Camera is your one stop shop for all things film.

Exciting new products from Impossible Project!

Miss Polaroid film? Well, miss it no more! As of today, Englewood Camera is a stocking dealer of The Impossible Project products. In 2008, founders Florian “Doc” Kaps and Andre Bosman bought the last Polaroid factory in the world; the company name was founded on the seemingly impossible task of redeveloping Polaroid film. With many of the chemicals found in original Polaroid films banned, The Impossible Project sought to recreate this much loved medium–and as a result, photographers can use their beloved type 600 and SX-70 cameras once again!

Impossible Project products now available at Englewood Camera.
Impossible Project products now available at Englewood Camera.

Now in stock: type SX-70 color film and type 600 color film. We are waiting for some very cool B&W instant film to ship; be on the lookout for that! Don’t have a Polaroid camera? We have refurbished, classic 600 cameras in stock–and they come with 2 packs of film! Stop by the store to check out this very cool, very classic film.

Some excerpts from The Impossible Project website worth reading:

Impossible instant film is an integral film: the film itself contains all the chemicals necessary for photo development. When an Impossible photo comes out of the camera it is blue. What you then see as the image appears is a chemical reaction. On ejection, the rollers of the camera distribute a re-agent paste, stored in a pod inside the frame, over the whole image and start a photochemical process. The re-agent then causes special chemicals (developer layer, image layer, timing layer and acid layer) to react, and silver compound layers to process – thus producing blue, green and red light patterns, which then result in an image. Getting this reaction right is extremely difficult. So manufacturing Impossible film in our factory in Enschede is far from easy. In fact, it is really complicated: A single photo consists of more than 27 components that have to be put together in the right way in order to make things happen. That’s why we are working hard to constantly improve the whole process and the quality of our film.

And don’t forget about all the creative things you can do with instant film! According to The Impossible Project:

Impossible film can be used and abused in hundreds of ways – some of which even we haven’t heard of. The Impossible community is famous for it’s creativity and drive to challenge our material: Emulsion lifts, experiments with heat, multiple exposures, collaging… the possibilities are endless. Our ever growing user gallery is testament to that. So get your feet wet (and your fingers) and start experimenting with Impossible instant film. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
